Brief History

In 2002, the United Nations General Assembly designated May 29th as the International Day of UN Peacekeepers to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the UN's first peacekeeping mission. This initial mission, which started in 1948, was the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in the Middle East. This special day is dedicated to honoring the unwavering dedication and accomplishments of UN peacekeepers engaged in numerous global operations. It also serves as a solemn tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of global peace and security.
