Veterans Day

Veterans Day

This is a day to remember and thank all the soldiers who served our country. On the 11th of November, people in the USA celebrate Veterans Day. In 1918, at the end of the First World War, there was an armistice. It was on the 11th hour, 11th day, 11th month. In 1919, America called this day Armistice Day. Later, in 1954, the day was changed to Veterans Day to remember all the veterans. On this day, government offices are closed and people don't work. But it's not just a holiday. It's a time to remember the brave soldiers and their families. We say "thank you" to them for their service. There are parades and ceremonies on this day. They show how important peace is and how much we appreciate the soldiers.

About the holiday

Brief history

Let's go on a trip through time and learn about Veterans' Day! It was in 1918 when World War I ended. People were happy and wanted to remember that day. So, in 1919, November 11th was called Armistice Day. In 1954, there was another war - World War II. People thought, "Why not celebrate all veterans on this day?" So they changed the name to Veterans' Day. Then, in 1968, some people thought it would be good to move Veterans' Day to Monday. But not everyone liked that idea. Some people said that November 11 had too much history. So, in 1975, the president said, "Let's go back to November 11." And that's how it is today.

Veteran's Day is a day to thank all soldiers. It's different from Memorial Day[,](fix::because Memorial) which is for people who have died. Veteran's Day is for everyone who has served. On Veteran's Day, people wear poppies and wave flags. They remember all the good things that soldiers have done. It's a special day to be proud of our country.
