Imagine a day when we make sure the food we eat is safe. This is World Food Safety Day, which is celebrated every year on June 7. It's a day to remember how important it is to keep food free from germs and disease. The UN and other health organizations celebrate this day to emphasize the role of safe food in our health. Why do we need to celebrate it? Unsafe food can lead to over 200 different diseases, like diarrhea and cancer. About one in ten people get sick each year from eating bad food. For kids under 5, the risks are even higher hundreds of deaths happen every day from foodborne illnesses. This year's theme, "Food Standards Save Lives", emphasizes the importance of strict food safety standards to prevent these illnesses.
