Surgical Oncologist Day
The annual commemoration of National Surgical Oncologists' Day takes place on the 22nd of August. This day serves as a tribute to and an acknowledgment of the exceptional doctors who have devoted their lives to enhancing the well-being of the global community. Their contributions are instrumental in enabling many individuals to surpass the lifespan predetermined by nature. Oncological surgeons are medical professionals who specialize in removing tumors and performing biopsies to diagnose cancer in patients. The role of an oncologist surgeon in the operating room may vary. Some specialize in certain types of cancer, but all oncological surgeons are trained to actively interact with patients and treat both cancerous and non-cancerous tumors.
About the holiday
Brief History
National Cancer Surgeon's Day was made in 2019 by Jenny Cherlin and the Lean On Me Breast Cancer Foundation. It is for doctors who help people with cancer. Before, people were brave or stupid to have surgery because it was dangerous. Now surgery is a good thing. Doctors are trying to make cancer go away. On August 22, we remember doctors who help. One of them is Dr. Dwight Carlton DeRizi. He is a famous doctor who has been helping people for 30 years.
