Democrat primary ahead of mayoral election
Brooklyn Borough Supervisor Eric Adams has won the primary election among Democrats running for mayor of New York City. The Associated Press (AP) reported that data Tuesday.
As it notes, Adams' victory is evidenced by the results of the ballots that were cast in New York City's June primary. The Associated Press (AP) estimates the Brooklyn chief is now set to become the Democratic mayoral candidate. Eric Adams is seen as the clear favourite in the race, as the participating Republican politicians are significantly behind the Democrats in popularity.
Interim results from the Democratic primaries were presented in New York last week. They showed Adams in the lead. His main rivals from among his fellow party members were former aide to incumbent Mayor Bill de Blasio Maya Wiley and former sanitation chief Kathryn Garcia.
However, if Adams wins the election, he will become New York's second black mayor. The head of Brooklyn promises to fight crime in the city strongly. He himself has been a police officer for more than 20 years.
It is worth noting that Democrat Bill de Blasio has been mayor of New York for two terms. He is not eligible to run again.
