Joe Biden's rating
US President Joe Biden's average popularity level in his first year in the White House was 48.9 per cent, lower than that of all other US leaders except Donald Trump during the same period.
The Hill reported on Tuesday evening that Gallup, a polling service, analysed data from 13 opinion polls that tracked the level of support for the current US administration leader over the past 12 months.
The service recalled that Biden's popularity rating when he entered the White House last January was 57 per cent. Between January and August, that level varied between 57% and 49% as the new coronavirus pandemic was on the wane.
However, since the end of August, especially after the chaotic withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, the president's support rate has dropped significantly, dropping to 43%. Between October and December, it held steady at 43-42%, and this January, amid the serious complication of COVID-19 and increasing inflation in the country, it has fallen to 40%.
The only US president whose average support figure in his first year in office is inferior to that of Biden is his predecessor Donald Trump his average rating was 38.4%, The Hill stated. Close to Biden is a similar figure to that of Bill Clinton, the 42nd US president, at 49.3%. Ronald Reagan's was 57.1 per cent.
The paper noted that Biden's decline in popularity is mainly due to independent voters who supported him with more than 50% in the first months of his presidency, now it is 33%. His support has also declined among Democratic Party supporters, from 90% to around 80%.
