GM will not force its dealers to sell electric Hummers

New Hummer model

The Hummer EV electric off-road vehicle, which will go on sale in the USA in the autumn of 2021, will be sold through existing GMC dealers, and General Motors does not plan to force sellers to sell this brand new model.

Only those points that are ready to do so will be involved in promoting the upcoming novelty. Those who are not ready will not lose their status as official dealers, CNBC reports with reference to Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC.

Aldred said that 50 per cent of GMC dealers have now volunteered to sell electric Hummer EVs, although almost a year remains before the model is launched. Even now there is a high demand for the machine thousands of consumers place pre-orders with a 100 dollar deposit.

GM's position on the electric Hummer is fundamentally different from its own position on the conclusion of the first electric car Cadillac, which will be named Lyriq and will belong to the category of crossovers.

At the end of last week it was reported that in the USA about one third of Cadillac dealers 150 car dealerships opposed the electric car they do not want to invest 200,000 dollars in re-equipment of centres and training of personnel to sell and maintain this model, as they do not believe in its market prospects.

In response, GM decided to completely deprive them of their Cadillac dealership, however, with payments of between $300,000 and $1,000,000,000.

Such a different approach to the promotion of electric vehicles within the same car concern is explained simply: according to the plan, the entire Cadillac range should consist only of electric models by 2030, but under the GMC brand name they will continue to produce cars with internal combustion engines. This means that Cadillac dealers are obliged to switch to sales of electric cars.

In addition, GM is even happy to reduce the number of Cadillac dealers as it has long wanted to reduce their number so that its positioning is in line with other luxury brands. Now in North America, Cadillac is often sold under the same roof as other non-luxury GM products, such as Buick.
