US stock markets close mixed on Tuesday: The S&P 500 index closed down for the fifth consecutive time

Tuesday trading

US stock indices closed mostly negative, a day before the Fed's expected 75 basis point rate hike. The Dow-30 and S&P500 fell for the fifth straight day, the longest streak since January.

At the close on the New York Stock Exchange the Dow Jones was down 0.50% to a 52-week low, the S&P 500 was down 0.38% and the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.18%.

At the end of Tuesday's trading, shares of such companies in the Dow Jones index were the leaders: Boeing (NYSE: BA) +5.44%, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) +0.92%, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) +0.67%, Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) +2.74%.

However, the value of such companies fell: UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) -1.69%, Procter and Gamble (NYSE: PG) -3.12%.

S&P 500 Index

At the end of Tuesday trading, shares of such companies in the S&P 500 index rose: ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) +0.26%, FedEx (NYSE: FDX) +14.41%, Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) +10.41%, CF Industries Holdings (NYSE: CF) +7.98%, Enphase Energy (NASDAQ: ENPH) +0.72%, The Mosaic Company (NYSE: MOS) +2.53%.

Shares of such companies closed down: Oneok Inc.
