By 2022, Mercedes-Benz expects to have battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in all the segments it serves. Starting in 2025, all new models will be electric only, for which the company will create three new platforms in 2025, designed to assemble electric cars in different classes. From this year, their share of total sales is expected to be 50 percent.

Mercedes-Benz will work with partners to equip the new vehicles with more than 200 gigawatt hours of battery capacity and plans to build eight Gigafactories. And this is in addition to the already planned network of nine battery system factories.

To improve the efficiency of its electric drivetrains, Mercedes will buy YASA, a company that specialises in ultra-efficient engines.

The company will build more than 530,000 AC and DC charging points around the world to ensure trouble-free charging of electric cars.

"This move marks a profound reallocation of capital. By managing this faster transformation while maintaining our profitability targets, we will ensure the sustainable success of Mercedes-Benz," said Ola Kallenius, CEO of Daimler AG (DE:DAIGn) and Mercedes-Benz AG.

To facilitate this transition, Mercedes-Benz has a comprehensive plan that includes a significant acceleration of research and development. In total, investments in battery electric vehicles will total more than 40 billion euros between 2022 and 2030.
