Animal Rebellion against McDonald's
Animal rights activists have blocked the supply of meat from four refrigerated warehouses in Britain, Animal Rebellion has announced on its website.
"Animal Rebellion protesters have turned their efforts to fighting McDonald's by blockading all four cold storage facilities in the United Kingdom, which supply approximately 1,300 restaurants", the organisation said in a statement.
More than 50 people are taking part in the action. They intend to hold the blockade for at least 24 hours. The protesters are using trucks and bamboo structures to do so.
McDonald's is considered a symbol of problems related to violation of animal rights and climate change. The protesters are calling for a switch to plant-based food by 2025. The ultimate goal of the protesters is to disrupt the supply chain to fast food restaurants.
In their appeal, Animal Rebellion members expressed solidarity with McDonald's workers, who are seeking higher wages.
Animal Rebellion is an animal and climate justice movement with the stated aim of compelling government action towards a plant-based food system. Their justification for the introduction of such a system is the impact of animal agriculture on climate change, species extinction and ecosystem breakdown. It has around 100 organisers and was founded in London.
