$750,000 fine
Tesla will pay a fine of $750,000 and is undertaking a small-scale distributed energy project based on its own solar roofs, to resolve air quality violations at its plant in Fremont, California.
It is worth noting that a spokesperson for the regulatory agency that regulates air pollution in the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area said that the settlement covers 33 notices of violations that Tesla received in 2015. It is also noted that since then Tesla has eliminated all violations.
The total fine was reportedly $1 million, but Tesla will make a payment of $750,000 and will also install a solar roof energy system. The statement said it would help improve air quality in some Bay Area counties. The larger project, which is being implemented by the local government, is aimed at reducing electricity costs as well as air emissions.
Exactly which area the Tesla energy system will appear in has not yet been determined. What is known, however, is that the company is to set up a "comprehensive environmental management system" in the future to ensure that Tesla is in full compliance with environmental requirements. The deadline for Tesla to meet its commitments has not been announced.
