Donnie Wahlberg’s Emotional Goodbye
After captivating audiences for 14 remarkable seasons, Blue Bloods has come to a heartfelt conclusion, marking the end of an era for its loyal fans and beloved cast. The series, known for its gripping police dramas and iconic family dinner scenes, aired its final episode Friday night.
Donnie Wahlberg, who brought Detective Danny Reagan to life, shared his reflections on this bittersweet milestone in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital.
The finale closed with a poignant dinner scene — an apt farewell for a show rooted in family dynamics. Wahlberg described the profound silence on set after the director called the final "cut."
“We all stood there, kind of frozen,” Wahlberg recalled. “It was like we were waiting for someone to yell, ‘Just kidding—there’s another season!’ But when that didn’t happen, the weight of it hit us, and it was overwhelming.”
Beyond saying goodbye to his on-screen family, Wahlberg opened up about the deep connections forged with the show's crew. For over a decade, the cast and behind-the-scenes team had built more than just a show—they’d created a close-knit community. "Knowing it was the end for them too—families, livelihoods, careers—made it even harder to walk away," Wahlberg admitted.
Reflecting on Blue Bloods' legacy, Wahlberg expressed pride in portraying the people of New York and the NYPD with authenticity. "This wasn’t just a job; it was a family, both on and off-screen. Saying goodbye felt like leaving a piece of my heart behind."
As fans bid farewell to Blue Bloods, Wahlberg is already looking ahead. He’s set to host the new season of Very Scary People on Investigation Discovery, a true-crime series that promises to be more personal and emotionally charged than ever.
The final episode of Blue Bloods aired on CBS on Dec. 13, featuring Wahlberg alongside Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, and Will Estes. Wahlberg also penned a moving tribute to Selleck, thanking him for his guidance and friendship throughout their time together.
Fans can catch Wahlberg in his next chapter when Very Scary People premieres Dec. 15 at 9 p.m. ET on ID.
