Icons Unite in Vegas
Adele’s Las Vegas residency took an emotional turn when she spotted fellow superstar Celine Dion in the audience, leading to a heartfelt moment that resonated with the entire crowd. Performing at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, where Dion herself headlined for over a decade, Adele couldn’t hold back her tears as the two embraced. In footage shared online, Adele can be seen breaking down before returning to the stage and urging the audience to “Give it up for Ms. Celine Dion.”
Dion, visibly moved, wiped her eyes and waved at the crowd as Adele continued her performance of When We Were Young. In a touching tribute, Adele called Dion “one of my favourite people of all time,” acknowledging the deep admiration she’s long held for the Canadian icon. The bond between the two singers has been evident for years. In 2018, Adele attended one of Dion’s shows, later calling her “Queen Celine” in an Instagram post. Dion responded with equal affection, sharing her love for Adele on social media.
This weekend’s performance marked Adele’s return to The Colosseum after taking a brief break to perform in Munich. Her residency, Weekends With Adele, launched in November 2022 and has been a huge success, drawing sell-out crowds at the intimate 4,000-seat venue. However, the demanding schedule has taken its toll. In July, Adele announced that she plans to take a “big break” from music after wrapping up her current run of shows.
Meanwhile, Celine Dion has been grappling with her own challenges. She made a triumphant return to live singing at the Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony, despite battling stiff person syndrome (SPS), a rare autoimmune condition that causes painful muscle spasms. Dion first revealed her diagnosis in 2022, having canceled her Las Vegas residency a year earlier due to health concerns.
Dion’s history at The Colosseum is legendary. She debuted her first residency there in 2003, performing 717 shows through to 2007. She returned for a second stint in 2011, wrapping up in 2019 after 424 performances. Even as she continues her health journey, her influence on the Las Vegas entertainment scene remains undeniable.
As Adele poignantly said during her show, “Give it up for Ms. Celine Dion.”
