Keegan's Iconic Ledger Memory
Andrew Keegan fondly reminisces about his time on 10 Things I Hate About You, recalling the moment he first met costar Heath Ledger. The actor, now 45, reflected on the memorable encounter during a recent interview at '90s Con on September 13. "It’s always a funny memory," he said. "I get on the elevator and just as the doors are closing, Heath stops them. I remember thinking, 'This long-haired, odd-looking guy is playing Joey? Got it.'"
Keegan's recollections are full of warmth and nostalgia, particularly when reflecting on how much things have changed since the film's 1999 release. Back then, social media didn’t exist, and cast introductions were more spontaneous. Meeting Ledger in such an unexpected way left a lasting impression, as did the overall experience on set.
The film has since become a cult classic, with Keegan’s role as Joey Donner forever etched into fans’ memories. His participation in fan conventions like '90s Con has been an unexpected yet rewarding way to connect with the audience. “When you make a film, you don’t expect the reaction it gets over time,” Keegan shared. “It's cool to be with people who truly appreciate the work.”
In addition to reflecting on 10 Things I Hate About You, Keegan also discussed his experience on 7th Heaven, where he portrayed Wilson West, Mary Camden's (Jessica Biel) on-off boyfriend. Keegan recently revisited the show with his daughter, noting how the series has held up over time. He described working with his former castmates as surreal, especially seeing how much they had grown since their early days on set.
