Katy Perry Gets Candid
Katy Perry opened up about her emotional journey with fiancé Orlando Bloom, reflecting on their year-long breakup and how they found their way back together. Speaking on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, the pop star revealed that during their 2017 separation, they spoke only sparingly. “He was boundaried,” she shared. However, it was a period of deep personal growth for both of them.
Perry emphasized the importance of self-work in rebuilding their relationship. She admitted she needed to focus on her own needs before committing to a healthy relationship with Bloom. "We all have our strengths and our opportunities for growth, but one of his strengths is when I crumble, he can step in and be that anchor," she said tearfully. Perry acknowledged that despite her strong exterior, she realized she needed support and partnership.
Their relationship wasn’t always easy. When they first started dating, Perry and Bloom were in different emotional spaces. Bloom had just completed a period of celibacy and was focused on his personal growth, while Perry was fresh out of another relationship. A turning point came when Bloom attended the Hoffman Process, an intensive therapy program, which changed the dynamic between them. Inspired by his progress, Perry also went through the same program, which she credits with saving her life.
Perry reflected on her earlier reliance on external validation, especially following the mixed reception of her 2017 album, Witness. This experience led her to focus more on her inner growth and self-worth.
Despite the ups and downs, Perry and Bloom's relationship has continued to deepen. She admires his adventurous spirit and loyalty, and credits their ongoing personal development as the key to their strong bond. "The more we do the work, the more we find the next level," Perry said, highlighting their commitment to growth and their journey as a couple.
