After the close of trading
On Friday, the US stock market experienced a fall, with negative dynamics from the financial, industrial, and commodity sectors.
The Dow Jones dropped by 1.07% to reach a three-month low, while the S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite also saw losses of 1.45% and 1.76%, respectively, at the close of trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
Among the top gainers in the Dow Jones index were shares of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC), which gained 2.95% to close at 27.22. Meanwhile, JPMorgan Chase and Co (NYSE: JPM) and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE: TRV) also saw gains. However, Caterpillar Inc (NYSE: CAT) shares were the fallers, down 5.79% to end the session at 227.01.
In the S&P 500 index, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) and JPMorgan Chase and Co (NYSE: JPM) were also among the top gainers. AbbVie Inc (NYSE: ABBV) also saw gains of 1.61% to close at 149.72. However, Signature Bank (NASDAQ: SBNY), First Republic Bank (NYSE: FRC), and Charles Schwab Corp (NYSE: SCHW) experienced losses.
On the NYSE, more securities declined than closed on the plus side, while on NASDAQ, more stocks declined than gained. The CBOE Volatility Index, which is derived from options trading on the S&P 500, rose by 9.69% to reach 24.80, hitting a new monthly high.
Gold futures for April delivery added 2.08%, or 38.15, to reach $1.00 per troy ounce, while WTI crude futures for April delivery rose 1.03%, or 0.78, to $76.50 a barrel. Brent crude futures for May delivery rose 1.21%, or 0.99, to $82.58 per barrel.
On the forex market, EUR/USD rose by 0.57% to 1.06, while USD/JPY fell by 0.91% to 134.90. The USD index futures fell by 0.67% to 104.60.
