Google tests its AI chatbot Bard after success of ChatGPT

Google has unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbot, Bard, amid the growing popularity of Microsoft's ChatGPT AI-based chatbot. This was reported by CNN on Monday.

As noted by CNN, Google is developing a new technology to effectively compete with Microsoft, which had previously invested $10 billion in the development of chatbot-based AI ChatGPT, capable of working in an interactive mode and simulate human conversation. With this technology, experts believe Microsoft's services will be able to perform more complex tasks than proofreading texts.

Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google, stressed Bard's ability to provide answers based on relevant information.

Google's announcement included an example of Bard answering a question about how to explain to a nine-year-old child the new discoveries made by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, and learning about the best strikers in football "right now" by going through training sessions to emulate the best players.

Google's artificial intelligence technologies like LaMDA, PaLM, Imagen, MusicLM will be integrated into its search engine. Sundar Pichai said that the new features, which are based on Artificial Intelligence, in its search engine will allow complex information and different perspectives to be processed into "easy-to-understand" formats.

It's worth noting that LaMDA became the subject of discussion about the potential power of AI last year when a Google engineer released claims that it was "intelligent". Google claimed that Blake Lemoine's claims about LaMDA an acronym for "language model for conversational applications" were "completely unfounded" and dismissed him.

Also over the weekend, users of the Microsoft search engine Bing claimed to have seen a preview of the product in which they could ask it questions up to 1,000 characters long, with the answers also referring to sources. Microsoft is set to announce more details on the use of ChatGPT in its products at a press conference on Tuesday.

Reuters had earlier reported that the popular ChatGPT chatbot had set a record for growth in downloads. The number of its users reached 100 million in two months, with around 13 million people using the app daily.
