American comedian James Christian Kimmel, also known as Jimmy Kimmel, will host the 95th Academy Awards on March 12, 2023. The Associated Press (AP) reported the news on Monday, citing the event's organizers.
Producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner said they were delighted to have Kimmel back and were confident he would be "funny and ready for anything" as host of the ceremony.
"To be asked to host the Oscars for the third time is either a huge honour or some kind of trap. Either way, I'm grateful that the Academy invited me so soon after getting rejections from everyone else," joked Kimmel himself.
Kimmel has already hosted the show in 2017 and 2018, the Associated Press (AP) recalls. "Jimmy is the perfect host to help us announce the incredible artists and film titles at the 95th ceremony," convinced American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO Bill Kramer.
Among the big award ceremonies, Kimmel most recently hosted the 2020 Primetime Emmys, memorable for its extraordinary ceremony of the pandemic era.
The president of ABC Entertainment, Hulu and Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals, added: "The return of James Kimmel as host of the Oscars is a dream come true."
Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall hosted the 2022 Academy Awards, which averaged 16.6 million viewers a rebound from last year's record low, but still one of the lowest Oscars. Kimmel's previous Oscars in 2018 have averaged 26.5 million viewers.
It's worth noting that attendees will be voting for this year's list of films from 12 to 17 January, with the official nominations to be announced on 24 January. The 95th Oscars will take place on Sunday, 12 March 2023 at the dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood and will be broadcast live on ABC and in more than 200 territories around the world.
