Sikhi Alpha is expanding the Equity in Education program to help elementary school teachers facilitate lessons around critical financial education and social-emotional learning (SEL) skills. The program suite consists of three programs with a comprehensive curriculum - Vault: Understanding Money, Healthier Me: Wellness Fundamentals, and The Compassion Project - and is available to Dallas and Houston elementary students and educators in under-resourced communities at no cost.
The Vault course aims to educate students in grades 4-6 on important financial concepts, priming them to make informed financial decisions and set them up for financial success as they develop. For grades 1-4, Healthier Me focuses on wellness fundamentals to help grade school students make healthy, informed decisions when it comes to nutrition and fitness. The Compassion Project is a first-of-its-kind national initiative with a mission of ensuring that every primary school student, grades 2-4, in the U.S. understands what compassion is and how to demonstrate it in their lives.
"Sikhi Alpha is excited to partner with Origin Bank and expand the Equity in Education program in Dallas and further in Houston," said Sikhi Alpha Founder and President, Jujhar Singh. "Financial literacy and social-emotional development are critical skills to help build a student's future foundation and deliver much-needed support to empower communities. Early adoption of these skills can improve decision-making, enhance intergenerational well-being, and outline paths to reach goals consistently."
“The foundation of the Origin vision is connecting people to their dreams, and our partnership with Sikhi Alpha is one of the many ways we are executing on that vision,” said Drake Mills, Chairman, President and CEO of Origin Bancorp, Inc. “Sikhi Alpha and Origin have proven that enhancing financial literacy and expanding educational opportunities improves communities. Our team of bankers at Origin looks forward to this partnership and the positive impact this program will have in the communities we serve."
