Johannes Hendrikus Hubert “John” de Mol Jr. is a Dutch media proprietor, television producer and entrepreneur best known for creating some of the world’s most successful reality and entertainment formats.

De Mol played a major role in building the international television production industry through companies including Endemol and Talpa. He became widely known as the creator of Big Brother, which developed into a global reality television franchise after its debut in the Netherlands.

His other major format creations include Star Academy and The Voice, as well as popular game and entertainment shows such as Fear Factor, Deal or No Deal and The Floor. Many of his concepts have been adapted across numerous countries, making him one of the most influential figures in international television formatting.

Through Endemol and later Talpa, De Mol expanded his business interests across television production, broadcasting and media. His success as a producer and media entrepreneur also made him one of the wealthiest figures in the European entertainment industry.

In 2023, Forbes estimated John de Mol Jr.’s net worth at approximately US$1.8 billion.
