Biography

Diana Miae Son is an American playwright, television writer, producer, and showrunner whose career spans both theater and television. She began working in television in 2000 as a story editor on The West Wing and later contributed to several prominent drama series, including Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Southland, Blue Bloods, and American Crime.

Son served as a co-executive producer on American Crime, which received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Limited Series in 2015 and 2016. She later joined Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why as an executive producer and served as co-showrunner alongside series creator Brian Yorkey. Her other television credits include the crime anthology series Dirty John.

Alongside her television career, Son is an established playwright. She is best known for Stop Kiss, a critically recognized play exploring love, identity, violence, and the experiences of two women in New York City. Her work often focuses on complex relationships, social identity, and characters from communities that have historically received limited representation on stage and screen.
