Hayden Lesley Panettiere is an American actress, model, and singer. Her journey from a baby model to one of the most recognizable faces in television is a story of both extraordinary success and profound personal struggle. Hayden Lesley Panettiere was born on August 21, 1989, in Palisades, New York, to Lesley R. Vogel, a former soap opera actress, and Alan Lee "Skip" Panettiere, a fire department captain. Her younger brother was actor Jansen Panettiere (1994–2023). Both of her parents are of half Italian descent, along with German and English ancestry. Her mother first got her into the entertainment business, taking her to auditions for commercials when she was only 11 months old. Panettiere transitioned to film with a series of notable roles. She provided the voice for Dot in the Pixar animated film A Bug's Life (1998). She gained wider recognition playing Sheryl Yoast, the daughter of Coach Yoast, in the Disney football drama Remember the Titans (2000), starring opposite Denzel Washington. She also appeared in Joe Somebody (2001) with Tim Allen.

Panettiere's breakthrough role came in 2006 when she was cast as Claire Bennet, the indestructible cheerleader, on the NBC superhero series Heroes. The show became a cultural phenomenon, and her character's ability to regenerate and her iconic line "Save the cheerleader, save the world" made her a household name. She remained on the show for its entire four-season run, from 2006 to 2010.

From 2012 to 2018, Panettiere starred as Juliette Barnes on the ABC/CMT musical drama series Nashville. The role, which required her to perform her own vocals, earned her two nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film.

Her film credits include Raising Helen (2004), Ice Princess (2005), Racing Stripes (2005), Bring It On: All or Nothing (2006), I Love You, Beth Cooper (2009), and the slasher horror franchise Scream (2011–2023). She also appeared in the television series Ally McBeal (2002) and *Malcolm in the Middle.

Music Career

As a singer, Panettiere contributed several songs to the Nashville soundtrack, performing as her character Juliette Barnes. She also released a country music single, "The Fabric of My Life," in 2016, which charted on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

Panettiere has received several accolades throughout her career. She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for Children for her work on A Bug's Life, making her the fifth youngest nominee for a Grammy at the time. Panettiere had an on-again, off-again relationship with her Heroes co-star Milo Ventimiglia, which she described in her memoir as a romance that began during a press tour in Europe. She was in a long-term relationship with Ukrainian former professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko (2009–2011, 2013–2018). They have a daughter, Kaya Evdokia Klitschko, born in December 2014. She later dated Brian Hickerson, who was jailed for assaulting her.

Panettiere has been open about her struggles with alcoholism, postpartum depression, and the difficult decision to allow her daughter to primarily live with her ex-partner Klitschko. On May 19, 2026, she published her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, in which she candidly reflects on fame, trauma, recovery, and grief. In the book, she came out as bisexual, explaining that she never felt "safe" or "ready" to share that part of herself earlier.

Her younger brother, actor Jansen Panettiere, passed away in February 2023 at the age of 28.

Hayden Panettiere's closest friendship is with her Nashville co-star Connie Britton, whom she has called "amazing" and "so supportive," with Britton expressing admiration for Panettiere's resilience.
