Josephine Victoria “Joy” Behar is an American comedian, television host, actress, and playwright whose career has spanned stand-up comedy, scripted television, and political commentary. She is best known as a longtime co-host of The View, where she has been a central figure since the program’s debut in 1997.

Career

Before her success in daytime television, Behar worked as a stand-up comedian and appeared in various acting roles, developing a sharp, observational style that later became her trademark on talk shows. Her comedic sensibility and outspoken political views helped shape The View’s identity as a forum for lively debate and cultural discussion.

Behar’s work on The View earned her a Daytime Emmy Award in 2009, recognizing her impact as part of the show’s original panel. Beyond ABC, she expanded her presence in cable news and commentary by hosting The Joy Behar Show from 2009 to 2011. She later fronted Joy Behar: Say Anything! from 2012 until 2013, when the network shifted its programming format.

In 2015, Behar returned to late-night television with Late Night Joy, a weekly program that blended comedy, interviews, and social commentary. Alongside her television work, she has also established herself as an author, writing The Great Gasbag: An A–Z Study Guide to Surviving Trump World, which reflects her signature mix of satire and political critique.
