Biography

Sean Patrick Gilmartin is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays. Gilmartin was the 28th overall selection in the 2011 Major League Baseball draft by the Atlanta Braves. Prior to beginning his professional career, Gilmartin attended Florida State University, and was an All-American pitcher for the Seminoles baseball team.

In 2011, Gilmartin was selected in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves. He spent several years moving through their minor league system, developing his skills and building a solid reputation as a left-handed pitcher.

His MLB debut came in 2015 with the New York Mets after being picked up in the Rule 5 Draft. Gilmartin had a strong rookie season, appearing in 50 games and earning praise for his performance out of the bullpen. Over the next few years, he played for several teams including the Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays. He also spent time in minor league affiliates and independent baseball, rounding out a solid, if not headline-making, professional career.

Gilmartin officially stepped away from professional baseball in the early 2020s. Since then, he has kept a lower public profile but is known to be involved in personal ventures and spending time with his growing family.

Outside of baseball, Gilmartin is best known as the husband of political commentator and former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany. The couple married in 2017 and now have three children together.
