Biography

Katie Elizabeth Boyd Britt is an American politician and attorney serving since 2023 as the junior United States senator from Alabama. A member of the Republican Party, Britt is the first woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Alabama and the youngest Republican woman to be elected to the Senate.

She was president and CEO of the Business Council of Alabama from 2019 to 2021, and was chief of staff for her Senate predecessor, Richard Shelby, from 2016 to 2018.

Political and Professional Career

Katie's political career began in Washington, D.C., where she worked for U.S. Senator Richard Shelby. At just 23 years old, she became the youngest press secretary in the U.S. Senate. She later served as Shelby's chief of staff from 2016 to 2018.

In December 2018, she was appointed as the first female president and CEO of the Business Council of Alabama (BCA), a role she held until 2021. During her tenure, she focused on strengthening Alabama's business community and served on various boards and committees, including the Alabama Wildlife Federation.

In 2022, Katie announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate, aligning herself with the "America First" agenda and securing an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. She won the Republican primary runoff with 63% of the vote and defeated Democrat Will Boyd in the general election, receiving over 65% of the vote.
