She is known for her work on the Broadway stage, for which she has won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical twice, in 2002 for her role as Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and in 2011 for her performance as Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes, a role which she reprised in 2021 for a London production, scoring a nomination for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

Her other Broadway credits include Grease, Little Women, The Drowsy Chaperone, Young Frankenstein, Shrek the Musical, Violet, The Music Man, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Once Upon a Mattress. Career

Foster’s breakout role came in 2002 when she starred as Millie Dillmount in the Broadway production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, a performance that earned her the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Her commanding stage presence, vocal power, and dance prowess quickly set her apart in the theatre world.

She followed this success with leading roles in a series of high-profile Broadway productions, including Little Women (2005), The Drowsy Chaperone (2006), Young Frankenstein (2007), Shrek the Musical (2008), Anything Goes (2011), and Violet (2014). In 2011, she won her second Tony Award for her performance as Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes.

In addition to her stage career, Foster has made significant inroads into television. She starred as the lead character in the critically acclaimed TV Land series Younger (2015–2021), playing Liza Miller, a 40-something woman navigating the New York publishing world while pretending to be in her twenties. The show boosted her profile with a broader audience and showcased her range as a screen actress.

Most recently, Foster returned to Broadway in the 2021–2023 revival of The Music Man, opposite Hugh Jackman. Her role as Marian Paroo once again highlighted her vocal finesse and ability to command the stage alongside A-list talent.

Beyond acting, Foster is also known for her work as a teacher and mentor in musical theatre and has released solo albums featuring Broadway and jazz standards.
