Compston Teases Final Chapter

Line of Duty star Martin Compston has suggested the BBC drama is approaching the conclusion of the storyline that has been building since its first series.

The 42-year-old appeared on ITV's This Morning on Thursday (September 10) to discuss his new Channel 4 travel series, Living Las Vegas. Speaking to Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, Compston admitted it felt "scary" appearing as himself rather than playing a character.

The conversation soon turned to Line of Duty, where he stars as Anti-Corruption Unit Detective Inspector Steve Arnott.

Discussing the show's future, Compston said: "It's for Jed to say, it's not for me to say whether the show will ever end but I think it's fair to say that this is the end of the story arc that's been building since series one. Everything will come to a head on this one."

He added that creator Jed Mercurio is looking to wrap up the long-running storyline in the upcoming series. Compston also described filming as one of the hardest shoots the cast has faced and said the new storyline is ambitious.

After a five-year wait, Line of Duty has been rumoured to return for a seventh series in 2027. Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar are also set to reprise their roles alongside Compston.

Producer Simon Heath previously addressed the extended break at the 2026 Edinburgh TV Festival, explaining that the time away gave the team space to reflect and allowed Mercurio to develop a new story.

The drama has featured several prominent guest stars over the years, including Keeley Hawes as Lindsay Denton and Kelly Macdonald as Joanne Davidson.

Heath has also teased surprises and familiar faces, raising expectations that the next series could bring the central Line of Duty story to a major conclusion.
