Divorce Gets Funny

Amy Schumer is returning to relationship comedy with a story that begins after a marriage ends.

The Emmy-winning comedian will star in and produce Best Divorce Ever, a new film written and directed by Sean Mullin. Concourse Media is producing and financing the project alongside sister company Archetype Media Finance.

Schumer plays Clarissa, who separates from Franklin after 20 years of marriage. Instead of turning the breakup into a battle, the former couple tries to make the split as friendly as possible. They even celebrate with an "Untying the Knot" party before starting their new lives apart.

Their plan soon becomes more difficult. Bad dates, worried children and unsuccessful attempts at conscious uncoupling create fresh problems. Clarissa and Franklin begin to realize that ending their marriage may be easier than deciding how to remain a happy family.

The project brings Schumer back to familiar territory, combining comedy with dating, marriage and complicated relationships. She previously explored similar themes in Trainwreck, the 2015 film she wrote and starred in, which was directed by Judd Apatow.

Schumer reacted to news of the project on Instagram, thanking Variety for "highlighting this exciting project."

The movie also arrives during a major change in her personal life. Schumer filed for divorce from Chris Fischer in December 2026 after seven years of marriage.

Her previous film was 2025's Kinda Pregnant, which she co-wrote and starred in. Directed by Tyler Spindel, the Netflix comedy also focused on relationships, family expectations and unexpected life changes.

With Best Divorce Ever, Schumer will once again turn complicated personal relationships into comedy, this time focusing on what happens after a longtime couple decides to separate.
