Justin Hartley Developing ABC Crime Series as ‘Tracker’ Relocates

Justin Hartley has another crime drama in the works while his CBS hit Tracker prepares to leave Vancouver for Los Angeles.

ABC is developing A Forgotten Kill, based on Isabella Maldonado’s 2024 novel. Hartley, 49, will executive produce through his 20th Television deal. Diana Son is set to write the adaptation and serve as an executive producer with Hartley, Ken Olin and Maldonado.

At the center of the story is Dani Vega, an FBI agent and former Army Ranger raised on New York’s Lower East Side. Her ability to recognize patterns and crack codes makes her a valuable investigator. She is teamed with NYPD detective Mark Flint, whose contrasting approach creates friction, chemistry and an effective crime-solving partnership. Dani’s hidden family trauma later puts both her job and safety at risk.

The novel continues Maldonado’s Daniela Vega series. It follows A Killer’s Game and is followed by A Killer’s Code.

Hartley is also returning as Colter Shaw in Tracker, the CBS procedural adapted by Ben H. Winters from Jeffery Deaver’s The Never Game. Colter travels from place to place, taking on missing-person cases and dangerous mysteries.

Season 4 will be produced in Los Angeles after the first three seasons were shot in Vancouver. California awarded the show a $48 million tax credit tied to $129 million in qualified spending. That makes Tracker the biggest 20th Television production to return to the state under the incentive program.

Prime Video previously moved Fallout from New York to California, while Dan Fogelman’s upcoming football series The Land received a $42.8 million credit.

“In terms of tone and character, I don’t think it’ll impact the show at all,” Hartley told The Wrap on Monday, May 25.

Elwood Reid said the relocation should give Tracker access to more visual settings and create jobs for California crews. Hartley has also thanked the Vancouver team for helping build the series. The drama has recently explored more of Colter’s family background, including Jensen Ackles’ role as Russell Shaw.
