Port Charles Gets Jason
Steve Burton appears to be back at General Hospital as Jason Morgan, just as the ABC soap marks another major milestone.
The show’s official Instagram account shared a video on Monday, June 1, showing the cast gathered around a large cake for the start of filming on its 16,000th episode. The post also celebrated General Hospital’s 63-year run and thanked viewers for their continued support. Fans quickly noticed Burton, 55, standing with the ensemble, sparking excitement over Jason’s return.
Burton announced in February that he would be taking a brief break from the series to spend time with his wife, Michelle Lundstrom, whom he married in May 2025. At the time, executive producer Frank Valentini said the show had worked around Burton’s absence while keeping strong Jason material in place.
Burton later confirmed his comeback on That’s Awesome, the podcast he cohosts with fellow General Hospital star Bradford Anderson. “Yes, I am coming back to the show,” Burton said. “I start in June, so I’ll be back for sure.”
The actor first joined General Hospital in 1991 and has returned to the role several times since. He left in 2012, came back in 2017, and was later let go in 2021 after refusing to comply with the show’s COVID vaccine mandate. After a year-long stint on One Life to Live, Burton returned again in March 2024.
Jason Morgan remains one of the soap’s defining characters, closely tied to major Port Charles storylines involving Sonny Corinthos and Carly Spencer, played by Maurice Benard and Laura Wright. His latest appearance also lands during a legacy moment for the series, created by Frank Hursley and Doris Hursley.
With Burton visible in the milestone cast video, Jason’s next chapter appears to be moving from promised return to on-set reality.
