Euphoria’s Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Addresses Maddy and Alamo’s Ambiguous Finale Scene

Alamo Finally Answers

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is clarifying one of Euphoria season 3’s most talked-about questions: what happened between Alamo and Maddy.

The actor, 58, spoke to Us Weekly at the MPTF NextGen Summer Party, presented by Delta Air Lines and Waymo, on Sunday, May 31, where he discussed Alamo’s tense scenes with Maddy, played by Alexa Demie.

“It was an interesting scene because it’s so layered. It’s very loaded,” Akinnuoye-Agbaje said.

The actor explained that Alamo had carefully set up the moment, from the bathing suit to the music and champagne. He said he and creator Sam Levinson discussed how the scene should feel flirtatious on the surface, but darker underneath, with Alamo using charm as control.

The debate began after a May episode showed Alamo ordering Maddy into a bathing suit and hot tub before agreeing to help her get the $1 million needed to save Nate, played by Jacob Elordi. The scene cut away before showing what happened next.

The season 3 finale, which aired Sunday, returned to that dynamic when Maddy visited Alamo at his strip club. He reflected on his life, made another move on her and suggested they have four kids together. Their interaction again turned physical before the scene cut away during an implied kiss.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje suggested the moment was meant to read as transactional rather than romantic, with Alamo expecting something in return for what Maddy wanted from him.

The storyline ended abruptly when Ali, played by Colman Domingo, arrived to avenge Rue’s fatal overdose. Rue, portrayed by Zendaya, has been the center of Euphoria since the show’s debut, though Akinnuoye-Agbaje said her death could theoretically open the story to other characters.

He noted that the world still includes figures connected to Rue, Maddy, Nate and Laurie’s criminal orbit. That could leave room for more stories involving characters such as Jules, played by Hunter Schafer, Cassie, played by Sydney Sweeney, and Cal, played by Eric Dane, even though Levinson has confirmed the series is over.

Euphoria is currently streaming on HBO Max.
