Maya Hawke’s Secret Wedding

Ethan Hawke is sharing a rare personal reaction to daughter Maya Hawke’s surprise wedding to singer-songwriter Christian Lee Hutson.

The actor, 55, spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the Time100 Gala in New York City on Thursday, April 23, recalling the emotion of walking Maya down the aisle during her February 14 ceremony.

“Walking your daughter down the aisle I’ve had a lot of feelings in my life and that was one I have no words for what that feels like,” Ethan said.

He also praised Hutson, 35, calling him an impressive young man and saying he felt lucky to welcome him into the family.

Maya, 27, is Ethan’s daughter with ex-wife Uma Thurman. The former couple also share son Levon, 24. Ethan is also father to Clementine, 17, and Indiana, 14, with wife Ryan Shawhughes.

Maya and Hutson married in a surprise New York City ceremony attended by her parents and several Stranger Things costars, including Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer and Joe Keery. The guest list reflected Maya’s close connection to the Netflix hit created by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer.

Maya first discussed married life publicly in March at the premiere of her new film Wishful Thinking, describing it as “absolutely fantastic.” She also told People and Page Six that she felt grateful, happy and fortunate to have married someone she considers her best friend.

The couple were first linked in 2023 and appeared to keep their engagement private until the wedding. Maya, who has balanced acting roles including Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood with her music career, has previously spoken about the value of dating someone who already knows you well.

Hutson, meanwhile, is known in the indie music scene and has worked in creative circles connected to Phoebe Bridgers, making the marriage another link between two artistic families and communities.
