Comedy Icon’s Diagnosis
Roseanne Barr is speaking candidly about a recent health concern that has prompted further medical evaluation.
During the Thursday, March 26 episode of her Roseanne Barr Podcast, the 73-year-old comedian and actress revealed that her doctor advised her to undergo additional cardiac testing. Reflecting her frustration with ongoing referrals and checkups, Barr shared, “This doctor says I have to go get my heart checked out because it’s damaged.”
Barr indicated she is reluctant to pursue invasive treatment, expressing a preference to avoid surgery altogether. Instead, she described a desire for a more palliative approach to care later in life, underscoring her broader skepticism about repeated medical interventions.
The update comes after a physically eventful period for the Emmy-winning performer. In June 2025, Barr discussed relocating to Texas, where she has been managing a large property. During that time, she recounted a series of mishaps involving heavy equipment, including a tractor accident that resulted in multiple injuries while clearing trees on her land.
Barr rose to prominence with the groundbreaking ABC sitcom Roseanne, which aired from 1988 to 1997 and became a defining working-class family comedy of its era. The series, developed alongside longtime collaborators including executive producer Matt Williams, helped shape Barr’s legacy as a leading voice in television comedy, alongside contemporaries such as Jerry Seinfeld and Tim Allen, who similarly headlined influential sitcoms of the period.
In 2018, ABC canceled a revival of Roseanne following Barr’s widely criticized social media post about former Obama administration advisor Valerie Jarrett. The network subsequently reworked the series into The Conners, starring original cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Sara Gilbert, and airing for seven seasons through 2025.
Barr later confirmed she is no longer in contact with her former co-stars, noting that while she retains positive memories of the show’s success, she has distanced herself from that chapter of her career.
