Full-Circle Hollywood Romance
Milo Ventimiglia and Arielle Kebbel have come a long way since their brief but memorable collision in Gilmore Girls.
Now, the actors reunite as husband and wife in I Can Only Imagine 2, the follow-up to the 2018 hit inspired by Bart Millard and MercyMe’s 1999 anthem. Ventimiglia portrays Christian musician Tim Timmons, who tours while battling cancer, with Kebbel playing his wife, Hilary.
Their shared history dates back to a 2003 episode of Gilmore Girls, when Ventimiglia’s brooding Jess sparred with Kebbel’s Lindsay over her love of Matchbox Twenty before fighting Dean, played by Jared Padalecki. At the time, Dean was also the first love of Rory, portrayed by Alexis Bledel — fueling one of the series’ most debated love triangles.
“Who knew we’d be sitting here now?” Kebbel reflects of their full-circle reunion.
On the WB drama, Kebbel filmed her first onscreen kiss with Padalecki, while Ventimiglia later returned for guest arcs at the request of creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino. Both actors recall being playfully vilified by devoted fans invested in “Team Jess” and “Team Dean.”
In the sequel, the tone shifts from teen rivalry to mature devotion. Ventimiglia shaved his head to reflect Timmons’ cancer journey and formed a close bond with the real-life musician, while Kebbel focused on portraying a marriage defined by resilience and joy. Decades after their Stars Hollow clash, the pair now anchor a story rooted in faith, family and enduring love.
