Kelce’s Career Crossroads
Retirement speculation continues to follow Travis Kelce, but even those closest to the Kansas City Chiefs star say no decision has been made — including his mother, Donna Kelce.
“I just want him to do what he feels comfortable doing,” Donna, 73, told TMZ in an interview published Friday, February 13, underscoring that the choice ultimately belongs to her son and the people he trusts most.
Kelce, 36, has spent his entire NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs since being drafted in 2013. Over more than a decade, he became a cornerstone of the franchise’s modern dynasty, forming a prolific partnership with quarterback Patrick Mahomes under head coach Andy Reid. However, the Chiefs failed to make the playoffs for the first time in 10 years ahead of the 2026 Super Bowl, casting uncertainty over the veteran tight end’s future.
In December 2025, Kelce admitted he was still weighing his options during a conversation with Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez. He acknowledged that the way the season ended left a “sour taste,” while also emphasizing his enduring passion for the game and the special atmosphere at Arrowhead Stadium. At a January press conference, he reiterated his pride in the team’s effort and said he would take the necessary time before making a final call.
His older brother, Jason Kelce, understands the magnitude of that decision. Jason retired in March 2024 after 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and has shared that stepping away from football requires perspective and distance.
For now, Kelce remains undecided. Whether he opts for another season or closes out a decorated tenure in Kansas City, the timeline — and the final verdict — rest squarely with him.
