A Quiet Star
Australian actress Rachael Carpani, beloved by audiences in both Australia and the United States, has died at the age of 45 following a long battle with chronic illness. Her death was confirmed by her family in a statement shared via Instagram on Monday, December 15.
Carpani first became a household name as Jodi Fountain on the hit drama McLeod’s Daughters, appearing in nearly 180 episodes across the show’s eight-season run. Her grounded performances and emotional range made her one of the series’ most enduring characters and a fan favorite during Australian television’s early-2000s boom.
She later relocated to the United States, steadily building an international career with roles across network television. Although a CBS pilot failed to launch, Carpani went on to appear on NCIS: Los Angeles, sharing the screen with Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J, and later landed recurring roles on The Glades and Against the Wall. Her film credits included the thriller Triangle, alongside Liam Hemsworth, as well as several Lifetime productions.
In 2024, Carpani returned to Australian screens with a role on Home and Away, marking a full-circle moment in a career that bridged two continents and multiple television eras.
Beyond her work, Carpani was candid about her health struggles, using her platform to advocate for women living with chronic pain. Reflecting on the support she received from loved ones while marking her final birthday earlier this year, she wrote:
“Despite existing in this waking nightmare of a world losing its humanity you all reminded me how much we should treasure what we have.”
Her openness resonated deeply with fans, many of whom credited her honesty with helping them feel seen and understood.
Carpani is survived by her parents and sister. Her family has requested privacy and will make no further statements. She is remembered not only for her talent and resilience, but for the empathy and quiet strength she brought to both her performances and her life.
