Police Drop Probe
British authorities will take no further action against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor after reviewing claims he sought personal information about Virginia Giuffre. London’s Metropolitan Police said the investigation found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.
According to the Met, the case will remain closed unless credible new material emerges, including potential disclosures tied to forthcoming document releases in the United States.
The decision sparked anger from Giuffre’s family, who said they were not consulted before the investigation was dropped and expressed frustration that authorities did not wait for additional evidence that may surface under recently passed U.S. transparency legislation related to Epstein.
Giuffre, who died by suicide in April at age 41, accused Epstein and longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell of trafficking her to Mountbatten-Windsor — claims he has consistently denied. In a widely scrutinized 2019 television interview, he rejected ever having sexual contact with her and questioned whether he had met her at all. He later settled a civil lawsuit brought by Giuffre in 2022 without admitting wrongdoing.
The controversy has intensified in recent weeks following the release of archival photographs recovered from Epstein’s estate by U.S. lawmakers. Among the images was one showing Mountbatten-Windsor alongside high-profile figures, adding renewed scrutiny as Congress pushes for broader disclosure of investigative records.
Amid mounting pressure, Mountbatten-Windsor announced in October that he would relinquish his royal title, saying, “In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.”
Buckingham Palace later revealed that King Charles III had set the wheels in motion to remove his brother’s remaining royal titles and end his long-held lease at Royal Lodge, forcing him to leave the estate. Palace sources framed the move as unavoidable, even as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor continues to deny all allegations.
