Glastonbury Row Deepens
Pop superstar Dua Lipa has dismissed reports that she cut ties with her former agent David Levy after he opposed Irish rap group Kneecap’s performance at Glastonbury.
The Mail Online alleged Lipa ended her relationship with Levy because he signed a letter urging festival organiser Emily Eavis to cancel the Belfast trio over their pro-Palestinian stance. Both Lipa and her agency WME have flatly denied the claim, clarifying that Levy left her team years ago.
Lipa Pushes Back at Media Narrative
In a statement, the singer criticised both Levy’s intervention against Kneecap and the Mail’s handling of the story, accusing the outlet of manufacturing controversy.
“Not only was the story completely false but the language used by the Daily Mail has been deliberately inflammatory, crafted purely for clickbait, clearly designed to fuel online division,” she wrote.
Her father, Dukagjin Lipa, has managed her career since 2022. WME also confirmed Levy’s advisory role ended earlier this year, long after his formal departure in 2019.
The Kneecap Controversy
Kneecap went ahead with their June Glastonbury performance, leading chants of “Free Palestine” and openly mocking UK prime minister Keir Starmer. Their appearance had faced pushback from politicians, while the BBC initially withheld its live stream of the set before later uploading it with minimal edits.
The band’s politics remain contentious. Member Liam Óg hAnnaidh faces a terrorism charge after allegedly holding up a Hezbollah flag at a previous show a charge he denies, saying he picked it up without recognising its meaning.
Lipa’s Broader Activism
Dua Lipa herself has consistently spoken out on Gaza, calling for a humanitarian ceasefire and condemning Israeli strikes. She also joined other public figures in demanding the UK halt arms sales to Israel.
Meanwhile, the war in Gaza has claimed tens of thousands of lives according to Palestinian officials, while Israel defends its actions as self-defence and a means of securing hostage releases.
