Chloe Fineman on SNL Cast Shakeup: ‘Pretty Wild’ Changes

Saturday Night Live has always been known for reinvention, but the sketch show’s upcoming 51st season is seeing one of its biggest cast reshuffles in years. Chloe Fineman, who joined the NBC staple in 2019, admits she’s still adjusting to the shakeup.

At the Michael Kors runway show during New York Fashion Week, Fineman described the changes as “pretty wild” and admitted, “I haven’t really processed anything. But I will say the show has such a turnover. I’m going into my seventh year. You always experience [turnover] but these people stay in your lives.”

The official cast lineup confirms that Fineman will return alongside veterans Kenan Thompson, Bowen Yang, Ego Nwodim, and “Weekend Update” anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che. But the show is also saying goodbye to a handful of familiar faces.

Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, Michael Longfellow, and Heidi Gardner have all departed ahead of the new season. Walker, who had been with the show since 2022, announced his exit with a reflective Instagram post looking back on his time at 30 Rock. His message struck a balance between gratitude and honesty about the challenges of late-night comedy.

To fill the gaps, SNL has tapped a fresh group of featured players. Among the new additions are Tommy Brennan, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska, each of whom brings their own voice and comedic style to the long-running institution. For fans, the influx of new talent promises fresh energy, even as they say goodbye to well-loved performers.

For Fineman, the mixture of farewells and fresh faces feels like a rite of passage for a show built on evolution. The comedian even joked about the youth of the new hires, admitting it made her consider skincare and beauty touch-ups to keep pace with the next generation of SNL stars.

As always, change is part of the DNA of Saturday Night Live — and viewers will see the next chapter unfold when the iconic variety show returns for its season 51 premiere on Saturday, October 4, on NBC.
