Being a guest star on Tracker might be just a fleeting moment, but for Lachlan Quarmby, it was a memorable one. The Hallmark actor, known for his starring role in Providence Falls, recently opened up about his time on the hit CBS series, calling Justin Hartley a standout leader on set.
“Justin is awesome. He’s straight in there. He’s a real captain of that ship. That was a great time,” Quarmby shared during an exclusive chat with Us Weekly.
While his appearance in season 1 was brief, it left Quarmby with an appreciation for the Tracker team, especially for how Hartley runs the show.
“I got to do an Australian accent, which was awesome,” he added. “At acting school in Australia, I was told I’d never play a surfer... but guess what? I got to play a surfer in Vancouver who was Australian. So fun!”
Quarmby may have been in just one episode, but his positive experience with Tracker speaks to the dynamic energy on set. Hartley, who stars as Colter Shaw, leads an ensemble of characters who help solve missing-person cases across the country. As viewers know, the procedural’s ever-changing cast of characters keeps things fresh.
That said, the show might see some shakeups before season 3. Executive producer Elwood Reid hinted at a shift in the show’s structure, revealing that Hartley often challenges him to keep things interesting.
“I don’t want the show to be phone-a-friend every week,” Reid said. “Justin is always challenging me. He’s like, ‘Do we need to do this? Do I need to call Bobby all the time?’ The show works because you are over Justin’s shoulder.”
With Tracker’s rotating cast, some familiar faces have already left, including Robin Weigert, Abby McEnany, and Eric Graise. But Hartley continues to bring in major guest stars, including his wife Sofia Pernas and Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles.
As for Quarmby, he’s staying busy with his Hallmark projects. His upcoming trilogy, Providence Falls, based on Jude Deveraux’s book series, debuts this Saturday. Quarmby plays a key role in the 1844 Ireland-set story, alongside Katie Stevens and Evan Roderick.
"The character was so fun right from the start, and the love for the project was clear from everyone involved,” Quarmby explained. “It was an easy choice to jump on board.”
Catch the first part of the Providence Falls trilogy, Chance of a Lifetime, this Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on the Hallmark Channel.
