Kelce Keeps It Real
Travis Kelce is used to pressure. He’s played in Super Bowls, taken bone-crushing hits, and dated one of the most famous pop stars on the planet.
On a recent episode of the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end revealed that hosting Saturday Night Live in March 2023 came with an unexpected challenge: the dreaded table read. While the rest of the week was fun — brainstorming in writers' rooms, trying out sketches — the actual reading part? Not so much.
“The table reading, for a guy that can't really read that well, it was kind of a f---ed situation,” Kelce admitted.
The clip quickly made waves online, but instead of getting roasted, Kelce got a ton of support. Former NFL rival Julian Edelman kept it short and sweet, reposting the moment with a simple “Same,” tagging Kelce. The gesture struck a chord with fans — both football diehards and Swifties who appreciated the solidarity and vulnerability.
To be fair, Kelce’s not exactly hiding behind a helmet anymore. He’s spent the last few years building a whole second career off the field from acting in FX’s horror series Grotesquerie to a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2, and even landing a lead role in the upcoming buddy cop film Loose Cannons. Not bad for someone who says reading isn’t his strong suit.
Only 35 athletes have ever hosted SNL, and Kelce now shares that honor with names like Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, and Tom Brady. Not bad company — especially for a guy who’s proving that being real beats being polished any day.
