Tisha’s Comedy Dream
The Martin alum recently opened up in Us Weekly about her dream collaboration with the sharp, fearless comedian. “I want to work with Amy Schumer,” Tisha revealed. “It’s her humor and comedy. I just feel like she’s a smart, funny woman.”
But their connection goes deeper than just comedy. Both women have close ties to autism — Tisha’s son is on the spectrum, and Amy often talks about her family experience in her stand-up and shows. “Amy understands the world of autism,” Tisha said. “I have a child on the spectrum. We’re both in comedy, and I can relate to her.” This shared experience makes Tisha believe their collaboration would be meaningful and authentic.
Tisha’s path in entertainment started early. At just five years old, she was already babysitting four kids while her parents worked. She even sneaked into her audition for My Wife and Kids, with a little help from her longtime friend and co-star Tichina Arnold. Now, at 56, she’s stepping outside her usual TV roles and testing new waters with her Dayum Gina! Comedy Tour. “I never did stand-up before,” she said. “I wanted the people I worked with and respected to know I was serious about it.”
Stand-up is a different game — no cameras, just the performer and the crowd. Tisha loves this raw, direct connection. “People get to know me better. I’m a people person,” she shared.
Outside the spotlight, Tisha balances her busy career with family life as a proud mom of two sons, Xen, 23, and Ezekiel, 15. She admits that being a boy mom has its challenges — especially “the smell” — but nothing compares to the joy it brings her. Besides acting and comedy, Tisha is also a writer, often spending weekends scripting stories on her laptop—a side of her many don’t know.
Looking back, Tisha reflects on what truly matters: strength and perseverance. “More so than anything, I want my kids to look at me and say, ‘With everything that she’s been through, she persevered.’” Through the ups and downs, that message is what drives her every day.
