Springsteen Sparks Feud
At a fiery appearance in Boston on Sunday, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello delivered a defiant show of support for Bruce Springsteen amid a renewed public clash with former president Donald Trump.
Performing against the backdrop of a bold political message and wearing a Malcolm X hat, Morello warned the crowd, “Welcome to the last big event before they throw us all in jail.” The guitarist, known for his outspoken activism, didn’t hold back as he rallied the audience around Springsteen’s legacy of protest music and progressive ideals.
“Bruce is going after Trump because Bruce, his whole life, he’s been about truth, justice, democracy, equality,” said Morello, who has previously toured with the rock icon.
The feud between Springsteen and Trump reignited last week after the E Street Band frontman condemned Trump as an “unfit president” during a UK concert. Trump responded by dismissing Springsteen as a “dried-out prune of a rocker” and demanded a federal probe into his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Morello further criticized the former president’s attacks on Harvard University — his alma mater — praising the institution’s online civics course that he said teaches how to recognize authoritarianism. His performance doubled as protest theater: flipping his guitar mid-set to reveal “F*** ICE” before playing it with his teeth.
With spectacle and sharp political commentary, Morello underscored what many see as the enduring intersection of music and resistance — even as partisan divisions deepen in the lead-up to 2024’s political climax.
